Care for Pregnant Women
Female Afghan doctors, working for the Kinderhilfe Afghanistan are taking care of pregnant or ill refugees
and children within two Basic Health Units. Treatment and medicines
are free of charge. Anemic and malnourished pregnant women are
provided with green vegetables and supplemented with additional food
of high value.
The Kinderhilfe Afghanistan pays for more serious procedures
like surgeries that are performed at private hospitals or at the
University clinic of Peshawar.
In August/September 2001 a German female doctor of Kinderhilfe Afghanistan was operating at a health station of Peshawar`s
refugee camps for the first time. Her engagement was most successful
and efforts like this will be continued. As soon as the alarming and
disturbing situation will ease, Kinderhilfe Afghanistan will
send German female doctors to Pakistan refugee camps again. Solely
female gynecologists and experienced doctors will be employed. For
reasons of acceptance by the refugees, only female doctors can
operate there. A minimum period of 4 weeks of engagement is required.
